May Festivals Highlights: Here comes the sun

Wanna take a look at what’s about to happen during May? Check out these north hemisphere festivals (we’re sorry, south globe civilizations!) and start packing your shorts and skirts, summer is almost here!

Shaky Knees

12-14 May / Atlanta, USA

Although it may not be still considered a high season in festivals, the second half of May sure begins to pack quite the line-ups. Starting with Shaky Knees, which will take place at Centennial Olympic Park, providing you with great indie and alternative names, with works to release or in the process of, for its fifth edition: LCD Soundsystem, Pixies, The xx, Nick Murphy (previously known as Chet Faker), The Shins, Phoenix… the list goes on. Enough to get your Indie on.

Hangout

19-21 May / Alabama, USA

Nothing shouts more “American teenager years” than live music at the beach… in spring time. Hangout Music Festival has that teen spirit, with some juvenile acts such as Mumford & Sons, Twenty One Pilots and even MGMT, or EDM visionaries Major Lazer, DJ Snake and Dillon Francis. Still, you may find the latest hip hop prodigies - Chance The Rapper, Migos, Lil’ Yatchy – or even some great names of the turn of the century: Sigur Rós and Weezer.

Nuits Sonores

24-28 May / Lyon, France

If you're looking for an electronic May, all roads point us to Lyon, where Nuit Sonores (literally translated “Sonorous Nights”) will take place once again, celebrating its 15th anniversary. Besides the daily acts curated by three artists for each day – The Black Madonna on May 25, Nina Kraviz and Jon Hopkins on the following two – where they perform and invite friends and homologous acts, a whole night of the festival will also take place in many clubs around Lyon (May 25). As that wouldn’t be enough, in the remaining nights a great line-up gains shape with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Floating Points, Vitalic and even Pharoah Sanders Quartet bringing the free jazz scene to the mixture. What a riot.

Bottlerock Napa

26-28 May / California, USA

Already sold out in all days, it’s worth mentioning this one for all the main rock acts: Foo Fighters, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Maroon 5, The Roots, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals and Modest Mouse are some of the responsible for rocking these next days in Napa Valley.

Liverpool Sound City

27-28 May / Liverpool, UK

We dare you to tell us this line-up isn’t brit enough, mate: The Kooks, The Cribs, White Lies, Metronomy… come on. But don’t let these hip brit acts distract you from the American or the admirable ones, such as The Kills, A Certain Ratio, The Human League, Art of Noise, and the one and only John Cale performing The Velvet Underground & Nico. 'Started packing, did ya?

Primavera Sound

31 May-4 June / Barcelona, Spain

An unmissable line-up across a dozen stages takes over the vast Fórum Barcelona during 4 days. Guarantee to host pretty much every act you heard throughout last year, Primavera Sound brings a seemly endless list of bands, DJs, and artists. Good news this year for the lovers of electronic music. A brand new side-stage called Primavera Bits is going to keep you going during 18 hours of uninterrupted music, with a total of 62 performances. Frank Ocean, Bon IverSolangeSlayerAphex Twin...the list goes on and on, one must be ready to be light on their feet and a close look at the schedule at all times.
