The Ghent Festivities are a benchmark in the lives of many generations of revelers. This year for the 175th time.
Long before Walter de Buck became the face of the parties at Sint-Jacobs in 1969, Ghent was already the scene of an annual celebration. In 1843, dozens of Ghent district and neighborhood celebrations, under the influence of the Ghent industrial bourgeoisie, united into one large Municipal Party. The program included sports and game demonstrations, historical parades, markets and fairs.
More than a century later, the Ghent Festivities became the largest and most visited city festivals in Europe.
